Bonus for Gwinnett Teachers

Surplus revenue means bonus for Gwinnett teachers and other staff

Gwinnett County Public Schools employees will get a bonus equal to two days’ pay after a vote Thursday by the county school board.

The “salary adjustment” is only for full-time employees with benefits, including teachers. It will appear in June paychecks and will be based on each employee’s daily pay rate. Amounts will range from $200 to $913, the district said, adding that a beginning teacher will get $396.

The $9 million in bonuses was possible because of rising property tax collections and savings elsewhere in the budget. Gwinnett will not have to tap its savings to pay for them, the district said. The last time the district gave a bonus was in November 2012, when the amount equaled one day’s pay.
